What else can an Attendance Allowance award unlock?

What it may unlock
- Someone who cares for them may be able to claim Carer's Allowance. Carer's Allowance on GOV.UK
- If they get Pension Credit, it may include extra money for severe disability. Pension Credit on GOV.UK
- If they get Housing Benefit, it may go up. Housing Benefit on GOV.UK
- Their Council Tax bill may be reduced. Council Tax Reduction on GOV.UK
Each depends on their own rules. DWP or the local council decides.
Who decides
Each one has its own rules. DWP decides Carer's Allowance and Pension Credit. The local council decides Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction. Nothing here is automatic, and nothing is promised.
If you are doing the caring
Carer's Allowance pays £86.45 a week (April 2026 to April 2027). To get it, the carer must care for the person for at least 35 hours a week, earn no more than £204 a week after certain deductions, be 16 or over, and not be in full-time education. A carer's claim can reduce some of the benefits of the person they care for, so get a free benefits check first, from Citizens Advice or Age UK.
