The lower rate (£76.70 a week) is for help needed by day or by night. The higher rate (£114.60 a week) is for help needed day and night, or for someone nearing the end of life.

Nearing the end of life
Under the special rules, for someone who might have 12 months or less to live, Attendance Allowance may be paid more quickly and at the higher rate, and the usual 6-month wait does not apply.
